A few months ago, the Open Door Mission looked to be stuck in NIMBY (not in my backyard) nation. The Mission wants to create a long-term residential care facility for homeless women and children, but they were turned down by a Rochester neighborhood. But they've found a home in Gates.
We talk about how it happened, and why so often we say the right things, but tend to oppose neighbors that don't make us comfortable. Our guests:
- Mike Hennessy, executive director of the Open Door Mission
- Anna Valeria-Iseman, women's program director with the Open Door Mission
- Mark Assini, Gates town supervisor
