Coming Up on Connections: Thursday, January 21st

First hour: Meet the only person in New York State to challenge the fracking ban in court

Second hour: Are we prepared for medical marijuana?

This past fall, we reported that a year after New York State banned fracking, no one decided to file a legal challenge. It turns out that's not perfectly accurate. A single landowner, who happens to be an East Rochester attorney, did indeed sue. David Morabito still thinks he can win his case; he says the state does not have standing to prevent him from extracting gas on his property in the Southern Tier. Morabito joins us to explain his lawsuit, and why he's taking up a lonely crusade when other pro-fracking groups decided not to sue.

Then, in our second hour: Many questions remain regarding medical marijuana in New York State. Who are the doctors who will be licensed to prescribe it? What will it cost? Will insurance companies cover it? When will the nearest dispensary open? Our panel tries to sort it all out. In studio:

  • Nancy Adams, executive director, Monroe County Medical Society
  • William Valenti, M.D., senior vice president for organizational advancement; co-founder; and staff physician, Trillium Health
  • Veronica Volk, WXXI reporter
Evan Dawson is the host of "Connections with Evan Dawson." He joined WXXI in January 2014 after working at 13WHAM-TV, where he served as morning news anchor. He was hired as a reporter for 13WHAM-TV in 2003 before being promoted to anchor in 2007.
