Coming up on Connections: Tuesday, August 4th

NPR

First hour: Lessons from the killing of Cecil the lion

Second hour: Understanding COMIDA

How can we turn the killing of Cecil the lion into something positive? Conservationists say that this is a teachable moment. It starts with a conversation about trophy hunting, the killing of big game for sport. And then it becomes a conversation about how we all interact with our environment, and the animals with whom we share this planet. In studio:

Pamela Reed Sanchez, executive director of the Seneca Park Zoo society
Larry Sorel, zoo director

In our second hour: Is COMIDA working? We sit down with the Democrat & Chronicle's Meaghan McDermott, who produced a comprehensive look at the industrial development agency, and how it uses our tax dollars. We'll examine the biggest projects awarded money by COMIDA, along with a look at which kinds of projects are getting our money. Our guests:

Meaghan McDermott, Democrat & Chronicle reporter
Bill Moehle, Brighton town supervisor
Greg Biryla, Executive Director of Unshackle Upstate
