Brandon Stanton lost his finance job in Chicago during the Great Recession.
He moved to New York City, where he started a photography project. Brandon would approach random people on the streets and take their picture. Somewhere along the way, he started collecting little quotes from his subjects as he talked to them about their lives.
Little did Brandon know that this was the beginning of the incredibly successful blog and books “Humans of New York”. Today, the project has more than 22.5 million followers on Facebook and Instagram alone.
Instead of small quotes, the photographs Brandon captures today are accompanied by compelling stories of each subject’s life, insights, personal struggles, or self-reflection.
Brandon Stanton is the Student Government Horton Distinguished Speaker at RIT’s Brick City Homecoming & Family weekend at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 15 at the Gordon Field House. https://www.rit.edu/gcr/brickcity/events/31/sg-horton-distinguished-speaker-series-featuring-brandon-stanton-hony
