The Hochstein School of Music and Dance and the YMCA of Greater Rochester are partnering for a fourth year with the "Making Music, Making Strides" program.

It brings three and four year olds from three city Y branches to Hochstein for an arts education class.

Teacher Grace Adams says this program gives them a head start.

"When you move and when you sing, and when you participate as a group, or when you participate in a different level, it does build you as a whole person."

Board member at the Y, Tim Tindall, is also a father of students who study at Hochstein.

He says there are immense benefits to this partnership

"Where's a definite connection between learning and music, and the ability to help the kids stay focused, and to have something they look forward to in the day. So they're learning how to interact with other kids, and they're learing in a way to develop both sides of their brain, not just the academics."

President and Executive Director of Hochstein, Peggy Quackenbush, says  a number of funders are helping support this program.

Around 100 children are currently participating in "Making Music, Making Strides."
