Arvine Heights Historic District in Rochester

Three local sites are among 22 properties recommended for addition to the New York State and National Registers of Historic Places.

Among the locations released by Governor Cuomo on Wednesday are:

-Arvine Heights Historic District in Rochester, as an illustration of middle-class residential development in the early 20th century.

-Inglewood & Thurston Historic District in Rochester, a neighborhood which crew in the 1920s as city residents migrated to new suburban areas.

--The Stevens-Sommerfeldt House in Clarendon, Orleans County, which is a rare surviving example of a late Federal period stone house built in the late 1820s.

Being listed in the State and National Register can help property owners revitalize their buildings since it makes them eligible for various public preservation programs and services.

Before retiring in March 2025, Randy Gorbman was WXXI's director of news and public affairs and managed the day-to-day operations of WXXI News on radio, television, and online.
