Daredevil Nik Wallenda will perform his high wire act at the Darien Lake Theme Park this summer. Wallenda was in Western New York Wednesday, meeting with reporters to talk about the plans.
Members of Wallenda's famous ``Flying Wallendas'' circus family and other aerialists will be performing twice daily from June 23 through September 1.
He tells WXXI News that ever since the time he crossed Niagara Falls on a high wire a couple of years ago, he feels a real affinity for this region.
"It was really because of Western New York and really the Toronto area just embracing Nick Wallenda and really taking me under their wing and supporting me and I really feel at home here, I feel comfortable here…we'll be bringing a traditional Wallenda high wire pyramid act as well as many, many other exciting things including me and my wife performing on 'sway poles ' which reach to the apex of that building in the theater there, over 50 feet above the ground where we will perform everything from handstands to switching poles. "
Wallenda lives in Florida, but hopes this show will eventually lead to establishing some kind of an ongoing presence in Niagara Falls.
