We Rochester residents can be generous and now we’re being recognized for it.

The biennial Volunteering in America report from the Corporation for National and Community Service ranked the Rochester region as the No. 2 region for volunteering. The rankings are determined by the number of residents who volunteered. The Minneapolis-St.Paul-Bloomington, Minnesota region was No. 1.

According to the report, 45.6 percent of Rochester residents volunteered a total of 22.9 million hours of their time last year. The survey also points out that nearly 63 percent of residents did some ‘informal volunteering’. Acts like helping neighbors with an errand or watching someone’s children.

More reflection on the generosity of Rochester residents – 61.1 percent of residents donated to charity.

The Corporation for National and Community Service is a federal agency that oversees the AmeriCorps and Senior Corps programs. You can see the full report here.
