Six Flags to again operate the Darien Lake theme park

There’s a new company that will operate Darien Lake theme park in  Genesee County and it’s a familiar name.

Late Tuesday afternoon, it was announced that Six Flags Entertainment Corporation has entered into a purchase agreement to acquire the lease rights to operate five amusement parks including Darien Lake.

The parks were previously operated by Premier Parks, an Oklahoma City-based company. Apparently EPR Properties, a Kansas City-based business which has owned Darien Lake the last couple of years, will continue to actually own the amusement parks.

Six Flags is the largest regional theme park operator in the world, and it says upon the closing of this deal, it will be the largest waterpark operator in North America.

The Six Flags name was associated with the Darien Lake park from about 1999 to around 2007.
