Seneca Falls company to lay off 36 people

A company with operations in Seneca Falls is laying off  about  a quarter of its workforce.

Xylem, a water technology company, recently informed the NYS Labor Department it is laying off 36 of its 138 employees for economic reasons.

A spokeswoman for the company says the cuts are in Xylem’s Financial Shared Services group, and the changes are part of a global initiative by the company that includes redirecting resources to more strategic activities.

Xylem told its employees about the cuts in January, and the layoffs will happen by mid-year. The company says it will continue its long-standing presence in Seneca Falls through other parts of its business.
