RPD responds to disruption on the northeast side; 20 are arrested

Rochester Police and other law enforcement agencies and first responders were called to the city’s northeast side on Sunday night, dealing with reports of rowdiness and roads being blocked by crowds of people involved in impromptu parades and other incidents.

As has happened in recent years, the annual Puerto Rican Festival went off peacefully at Frontier Field, with no problems reported, but revelers gathered along parts of North Clinton Avenue and nearby streets in the hours after the parade ended.

The office of Rochester Police Michael Ciminelli released a statement saying that RPD responded to various locations in northeast Rochester due to “many individuals who decided to exercise poor judgment.”

Authorities say they deal with pockets of disruption and at times there were instances where officers had rocks and bottles thrown at them. Rochester firefighters responded to a couple of small fires set within a garbage can.

State Police provided a helicopter to provider an aerial view.

There were 20 arrests including charges of assault, disorderly conduct, endangering the welfeare of a child, and a number of traffic charges including aggravated unlicensed operation.
