RIT Women's Hockey Plans Move to Division I

Rochester Institute of Technology wants to add another team to Division I athletics.

The women's hockey program has applied to join College Hockey America, and with the NCAA's blessing, they'll move to Division I next year. They would join the RIT men's hockey team as the only Division I program in Rochester.

The women's team just won the Division III championship, and Coach Scott McDonald says his players are looking forward to the next challenge.

RIT President Bill Destler says the women's team has had a superlative history, winning 54 of the last 60 games. The women's team is also outstanding off the ice, with a collective 3.17 Grade Point Average during the winter quarter.
