Public forum this Thursday with the new “Distinguished Educator.”

NYS Education Dept.

Community members get a chance Thursday night to meet and offer feedback to Jaime Aquino, the man selected by the State Education Department to be the Rochester City School District's "distinguished educator."

The forum has been organized by a coalition of community groups who have been outspoken in their opposition to the concept of a distinguished educator, but group member Howard Eagle says they also credit  Aquino for recognizing the importance of engaging the community in any effort to turn the district around.

"He has said that he is very much interested in hearing from our parents, from students, from other community members and so forth, so our coalition took the responsibility to organize this forum with Dr. Aquino," he said.

Eagle says his coalition finds it impossible to believe  Aquino will discover or uncover something significant in the district that isn't already known.

City School Superintendent Barbara Deane-Williams has said that  Aquino will examine the operational, curriculum, and instructional aspects of the district.

That public forum will be held Thursday night starting at 6 at the FIGHT Village Community room at 186 Ward Street.
