Pittsford considering bringing Zagster to town

Zagster may be expanding to Pittsford.

The village has been working on reclaiming the streets for all users, not just cars.

Pittsford Mayor Bob Corby says there is an interest from residents in being mobile in other ways.

"All across the country, study after study has shown that younger people, younger professionals, millenials prefer to live in walkable environments where they can get outside the car and experience the physical environment."

Corby adds that their proximity to the canal makes the town an optimal location for bike sharing, and expects other canal side towns like Fairport and Brighton to look into bike sharing programs as well.

While the plan is still in the very early stages of discussions, Corby can picture a few station locations.

"Prime locations would obviously be on Main Street and down by the canal and Schoen Place."

The issue will be discussed at a board meeting Monday night meeting at 7:30 p.m. at Pittsford Town Hall.
