Longtime Brighton Town Board member James Vogel has died

Town of Brighton

A longtime member of the Brighton Town Board has died. Town officials say that James Vogel died last Saturday with his family by his side. He was 80 years old.

Vogel had been on the town board for 28 years.

Town Supervisor Bill Moehle says that, “Jim’s life was a legacy of service to his country in uniform as a Colonel in the Marines Corps and the Marine Corps Reserve, but also an extraordinary legacy of service to the community.”  Moehle says that Vogel led efforts to create the Brighton Veterans Memorial.

Vogel also was recently recognized by the Brighton Rotary Club with the Paul Harris Fellow award, recognizing a life’s commitment to the ideals set forth in the Rotary Motto, “Service Above Self.”

Vogel also had been a human resources manager at Xerox. Moehle says that Vogel also worked with the House of Mercy on homeless issues and was also a leader in the Monroe County Democratic Committee.
