Hate Crime Charge Filed In Vandalism At Local Mosque

The Orleans County District Attorney says that three people are facing hate crime charges after an incident last week in the Town of Carlton where two crosses were burned into the lawn of a mosque.

D-A Joseph Cardone says that 20 year old JarodBiemans of the Town of Gaines, and two others who are potential youthful offenders and were not named.

They face charges that include Criminal Mischief as a Hate Crime, Aggravated Harassment, Arson, Trespass, and Criminal Interference with a Religious Worship.

They are accused of  going onto property belonging to the World Sufi Foundation Mosque last Thursday night and using ignitable fluid to burn the two crosses on the lawn. There were no injuries and no damage to any structures.

Each of the three being charged are expected to be released to the custody of their parents.
