Golisano Foundation To Conduct Health Screenings at Special Olympics

www.la2015.org

The Golisano Foundation will be on hand for the start of the  Special Olympics 2015 World Summer Games on Saturday, with the focus on the health of those with intellectual disabilities.

Ann Costello is Director of the Foundation.

She says  they'll be focusing on delivering health care screenings for thousands of athletes, many of them from developing countries who are seeing a medical professional for the first time.

Costello says others who have conditions that need to be treated will receive the care that they need.

"The health screening component is a very big event, and that is the focus of the Golisano Foundation's support."

Tom Golisano made a $12 million dollar gift to Special Olympics three years ago to launch the Healthy Communities program in six states and eight countries.

Costello says Golisano is very interested in improving access to care as well as improving the health status of people with intellectual disabilities.

The Golisano Foundation says it will make an historic announcement tomorrow regarding Special Olympics' work in health.
