Dewey Ave Pocket Park dedicated to Latasha Grayson-Shaw

A pocket park on the corner of Dewey Avenue and Driving Park Avenue was dedicated to Latasha Grayson Shaw.

She was shot and killed on this corner in broad daylight 11 years ago Saturday.

Family members, supporters and local leaders made a call to stop the violence in the city

Chanette Grayson is Latasha’s sister.

“When I went to sleep it was hard, but I woke up this morning and she made it real easy. Because what she said to me was “Y’all did that, they aint gonna never forget about me.” With that being said every time anybody come through here they’re going to see sees her no matter what.”

Mayor Lovely Warren said the easy way out of a dispute is to settle it with a gun, and urged people to think before they act.

“Look at all of these family members, all these people that at a 11 years later still feel the loss, it never goes away."

Shaw was defending her daughter when she was killed.

She was also an active union member of SEIU 1199.
