Canandaigua gets its first electric vehicle charging station

Genesee Region Clean Communities

The City of Canandaguia will hold a ribbon cutting ceremony for its first electric vehicle charging stations Saturday afternoon.

It’s the first of several stations to be installed throughout the Finger Lakes region. Other communities will be getting charging stations including Brockport, Geneseo and Victor.

The installations are part of a broader campaign by New York State to provide stations along the I90 corridor to increase the use of electric vehicles. In total, 25 stations will be installed from the capital region to western New York, with most expected to be operational by the end of the year.

The stations are getting help of the Genesee Region Electric Vehicle Charging Station Plan, prepared by the Greater Rochester Clean Cities coalition in 2016, as well as support from the New York State Energy Research Development Authority.

The ribbon cutting takes place at 4pm at the charging station site at the Chamber of Commerce.
