Body recovered from the Genesee River in Rochester

Rochester Fire Dept.

Rochester fire officials are releasing more information about the recovery of a body in the Genesee River in  Rochester on Thursday afternoon.

The recovery process caused traffic congestion throughout the area where the operation was going on, in the area of Andrews Street and the Inner Loop. Several streets, including a portion of the Inner Loop were closed down during the afternoon commute.

Fire officials say their department was dispatched at 4:41 p.m. for a report of a person in the water. It ended up being a recovery operation; authorities say it appears to be the body of a male that had been in the water for some time.

Both police and firefighters took part in the operation. The body was brought out of the water by 6:46 p.m.

Fire officials say the incident took a longer amount of time because it was a technical operation and not a rescue.

There is no word yet on the identity of the person found in the river or other information about how and when he ended up in the river.
