Body of missing Webster man recovered in Irondequoit Bay

Monroe County Sheriff's Office

The Monroe County Sheriff's Office says that searchers have recovered the body of a Webster man in Irondequoit Bay.

Authorities say 40 year old Shawn Ross was last seen wading on a sandbar, not far from shore in Irondequoit Bay, shortly before 5:45 p.m. on Thursday.

Deputies say that earlier in the evening, Ross was on a pontoon boat with one friend and one family member. He left the boat to wade in the water, while his friend and family member remained on the boat.

Ross couldn’t be found and a land, air and water search followed including the use of side scan sonar.

On Friday morning, Ross's body was found about 45 feet off shore.

State Police, Webster Police and West Webster firefighters were among the other first responders also  involved in the search.
